Learning from experience

We know that some of the IT problems we face can happen to you at some point so we thought it will be a good idea to include a quick summery of the jobs we recently done. It may help you with your problem.

So let’s start. Last week I went to visit a client for the first time. They called me because one of their PCs wouldn’t boot up.

They kept getting the following error “Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM”

This is a typical Windows registry corruption problem. The registry is where Windows keeps all the thousands of different settings for the users and hardware of the computer so understandably, the computer won’t start with it being corrupted.

I was able to help this client by following the instructions on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 although there was an unexpected complication at stage 5 in the bit when I needed to copy c:\windows\repair\system into c:\windows\system32\config\system because there was no such file.

I had to use a file from an identical PC they had in the office and that did the magic.

After that I continued to follow the instructions and the PC was repaired.

  1. Amazing. Never assumed this became doable as a result of carrying it out that approach. Yet, this is a rather new version of facts! What exactly are your thoughts about exchanging steps all-around however?
